I can't stress this tip enough... fill out your bio! Filling out your bio is more important than having a picture and using your real name. I personally get 20-30 new followers a day and my days are pretty busy with three blogs to run, three kids to take care of and so on, so I don't have the time to go to each new follower, click on their id name, check out their website and their latest tweets. So, how do I choose who to follow? I hover over their screen name and read their bio. No bio= no follow.
Now, I don't follow everyone who has a bio because that would be silly, but I do read the bio and if it interests me sometimes I hit follow right away or sometimes I'll check out a few of their latest tweets to see if they interest me. Basically, if you are on Twitter to network, make new friends or your really not sure why you are on Twitter (Oprah and Ellen mentioned the site on their show), whatever the case may be... the most important tip I can give you is to fill out your bio!
