I just got finished reading a post from a blogger about how she receives death threats and will now be charging for readers to view content about her family and personal life. I'm just not buying it. If it was true to the extent that is described, all pictures and other family info would be removed and cease to exist.
I just want to say..."Please people, open your eyes. She's just trying to get more links and advertisements to her blog."
"For now, in an effort to protect my family from being killed, or threatened to be killed, over freedom of speech, my family posts and videos will be private from this point on."
It's a freakin' genius idea, if it works!
"General readers will still have access to a good majority of free content, but if you are an avid reader/commenter and would like a FREE upgrade to Member Status or you advertise momdot on your blog (like in a banner), please check this page to find out if you qualify to view our private posts. We want you to continue reading and will work with you if you have been a part of us."
So, if you don't want to put her banner in your sidebar, but you want to read all about her personal life complete with pictures and video, then you'll need to pay... $5.99 for 30 days.
Either way, she wins and I'm so proud of this blogger for thinking up such a clever scheme.

you have got to be joking me! please tell me people aren't really going to fall for this rubbish!
ReplyDeleteThat is terrible. Like you said in the beginning, if it was really a threat to her family, she would shut the blog down. At the very least, she would stop posting pictures of her family. It sounds shady. I would stop following her just because of that. It can't be that serious to have a window into someone else's life.
ReplyDeleteRidiculous. Perhaps she works for a major media owners - they're all trying to charge for content too.
ReplyDeletewow. just...wow.
ReplyDeleteI particularly liked "If you are an avid reader of Momdot..." i.e. if you have a pulse...
ReplyDeleteYou have to give the crazed nut case props for creativity and originality....and what is sad...people BUY literally buy her minutiae. *Bravo
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this post yet I'll have to go over and check it out Thanks for spreading the word. If you've seen the threats she's been getting youd understand I don't blame her. When you post vlogs and personal content for the world to see ...there are sicko's out there you have to worry about. Just thought I'd add my 2cents
ReplyDeleteFirst, thanks for the traffic. Second, I wont shut my blog down over people that have been sending me threat emails this week. I have gone through worse w/ the PR blackout.
ReplyDeleteInstead, I put it on private and will be going to the police on monday. I have been blogging for over a year and a half, am a speaker at a past conference and an upcoming one, and my blog is monetized, meaning I make enough money from it that its income based.
Shutting it down would be like quitting your job. Its not going to happen, but i took steps to protect my personal posts until I have done taken the legal steps to protect myself. I have been on the web for 5 years and my information isnt going anywhere online, even if the blog did. I am instead faced to change how I do business in the temporary fashion.
For the record, I thought it was smart to put it on a pay system.
Trisha
And to add to this (Sorry I hit send too soon!), I dont believe the threats are serious, but that doesn't mean I have to subject my content to copyright thieves right now or leave any more blog fodder for people who wont leave me alone. And at the same time, who's to say they are *not* serious, so I am taking baby steps.
ReplyDeleteIts a temporary solution that will allow me to formulate a long term plan that will not include leaving my blog or terminating my writing and keep my personal family photos and stories out of the limelight until I have made those decisions.
While an entertaining solution, its also quite obnoxious to have to individually approve people I have discussions with daily.
And hey, if people buy along the way, its total win/win.

SO do you support her using the "mommy" blogger term to get what she needs. By what she just said she will conform to what the situtaion is. She say the market with mommy blogging and stepped in, now its more that she is a critic or something...
ReplyDeleteAnyways the deaththreats, many think are false...read trishahaasneedsanosejob.blogspot.com on whay she is using the death threat story to trick people.
Also, The police never close, they serve and protect 24/7...this is America...I would think you would know since you believe in the first amendment.
ReplyDeleteFunny, there are still public pictures of her family as well as an entire public section devoted to her young daughter. How does that protect them from these supposed big bad death threats she's getting? Once again, her lies are catching up to her.
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that nobody realizes why this trash is under fire in the first place. She took pictures of minors in the airport and humiliated them on her blog. Cyber bullying little girls is why people are angry.

sadly some willl pay to ente rher site nothng like being part of an "Exclusive Club" to bring the wackos out .death threats i doubt it. hopefully her sponsors will pull the plug and find an ethical blogger to sponsor instead of this one ethical and christan she is not and those that follow her i doubt are either cyberbulling is a nasty business it needs to stop
ReplyDeleteThis is far from brilliant. The only thing Trisha was selling before was her PR list (which should have gotten her blacklisted from most reputable PR companies). She doesnt have enough paying members to support the site as is, you can tell by the lack of comments under most of her blog entries. A much larger organization might be able to pull this off but not her.
ReplyDeleteI'll be posting a response to her HILARIOUS comments on my own blog a little later tonight.
I honestly don't believe there is any death threats.
ReplyDeleteIn any case; as of last count there are 199 signatures on my petition so far of people who want sponsors to drop her. And there's only 30 something comments of support on her blog......soooo...seems like the majority agree she's an unethical cyber-bully.
(you won't know about anybody who disagrees by her own blog; she bans anybody who does)
Sad that she's playing 'victim' now that she knows she's going to lose sponsors. (who would want to associate with her after all the crap she's posted?)
Oh seriously. Trish you are the one of the most petty people I have ran across in my life. MOTHERS do not let death threats "wait until Monday". Are you that cracked? You banned me, I'm still looking. lol PeekABoo.
ReplyDeleteYou only want death threats for those that are willing to pay to see you ridicule others. Those are the special ones right?
Cover your tatas, I have seen it one too many times (aint got much there do ya'), and to those of you that keep linking it, gah stop it!
Well, I'm sad she's had threats. That really could be scary. I know I'd be freaking out, even if I didn't really think it was serious. My family's safety is very important to me.
ReplyDeleteHowever, charging for the content isn't going to keep the creeps away. I say make the personal posts private and provide a password/membership for close family/friends. No one else needs to see it. If you don't feel confident enough to give them a membership to view private content, don't give them access at all.
Seriously....how many people....okay...people in their RIGHT MIND...wait until Monday to call the police? Monday? Huh? Death threats all weekend? You having a death threat invitation only party? Seriously...only an INTELLIGENT, IN THEIR RIGHT MIND, LUCID, individual would call the cops ASAP if a TRUTHFUL death threat was made. I know my kids...my family...are my world!! I would bear down and call the cops that instance. But hey....thats me....just a "troll" in my home right Trisha!?
ReplyDeletei keep coming back to read the comments. i find it interesting that there are so many people that come out when a negative post is up about trisha. that is kind of sad to me. i don't agree with how she went about this. but to have blogs and twitter accounts dedicated to ripping on her, well...that's just kind of a waste.
ReplyDeleteimho.
Hey Melissa, While I won't post any negativity towards anyone because I do have a heart, I have to just chime in on what you said. I don't think it's that people are "coming out" to leave comments about Trisha just because there are negative posts. I think people have ALWAYS felt this way and have tried to express how they feel, but Trisha always deletes their comments or bans them from her site.
ReplyDeleteIf she didn't moderate her comments so much, I'm sure you would have seen very similar comments on her blog over the past year or so.
Now that the people she's pissed off in the past actually have a place to let it out, it's coming off as an "attack", but really it's just a lot of pent up feelings. KWIM?
anonymous...hey! so, i'm not a big reader on momdots blog and i don't pay much attention to the comments when i have spent any amount of time there.
ReplyDeletei agree, karma is a bitch. and if enough people get pissed off maybe it'll make a difference.
in the meantime, posts like this one that link to her blog just add fuel to the fire. it's giving attention where attention isn't warranted. it's just another blogger drama. and just another way for people to click over to her blog so she can get more hits to make more money.
i took down my post and am going back to basics. blogging. drama free.
